Now these are rules to live and teach by! Read the story behind this beautiful graphic here!
As you watch this inspiration video for the week, think about all that being a teacher means to you and your students. Be proud that you are a part of this honorable, beautiful profession. As teachers, you may never know the influence and impact you have on every child that walks through your doors. This video made me think about the words that we say to our students, and how one phrase could make all the difference in their lives. I came across this video that I just love. These words are for you. I remember my first year of teaching and how I felt like I could live in my classroom 24/7 and still not get everything done. Who am I kidding, I felt that way during my 10th year of teaching as well! Teaching is complex. And the weight of doing what is best for each of our diverse students is immense.
Please, please take care of yourself. Find time to breathe. Remember at the New Teacher Orientation when we talked about your stress relievers? Do that. OFTEN. One of the best things I've read on balance was this blog, written by Sarah Brown Wessling, 2010 National Teacher of the Year. I hope it speaks to you the way that it spoke to me. I came across this cute little, one minute video. It's fun watching celebrities thank their teachers, but even more importantly, thinking about the lasting impact that teachers can have on the children in their classrooms. Your work is life changing! This is one of my all time FAVORITES. Remember, YOU are a champion to your kids. You can do this challenging, incredibly honorable work. "Is this job tough? You betcha. Oh God, you betcha. But it is NOT impossible. We can do this. We are educators. We are born to make a difference." -Rita Pierson |
