Last month, I attended the ECET2 (Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teachers and Teaching) convening in Seattle, hosted and funded by the Gates Foundation (@gatesed). One of the highlights was a photo booth that was set up outside the conference room with tables full of thick permanent markers and big blank speech bubbles that included one powerful hashtag: #WhyITeach. 400 teachers drifted to the tables throughout the convening and spent a moment to reflect on why they became teachers. The #WhyITeach wall was AMAZING. I returned from the convening rejuvenated and inspired. School began 5 days later and I was in charge of running the first complex area inclusion activity of the year. Bet you know what I did! Your turn! Print out this speech bubble and write your #WhyITeach statement! Snap a photo and e-mail it to: [email protected]. I plan to post the speech bubbles in a special way here on the website. Don't forget to post your #WhyITeach bubbles in your classroom. Let it remind you of WHY you wake up every day and do what you do. |
