Amazing teachers inspire teachers.
It is with this in mind that we are rethinking what professional development should look like for our beginning teachers. We know that learning needs to be timely, relevant, and applicable. At our recent New Teacher Orientation, we asked our beginning teachers what they would like more professional development on throughout the year, and we were gifted with a hearty list.
Classroom management. Differentiation. Record keeping. Wonders. STEM. Formative Assessments...
We looked at the list and thought about the power of sharing teacher practice, and realized how impactful it could be if teachers in our complex who had mastered these topics through trial and error could be the ones leading these professional learning sessions.
Please consider nominating a teacher strong in one of the topic(s) listed on the survey below to host a 1-2 hour after school session for a group of beginning teachers. It could be a simple presentation or just a Question and Answer session in their teaching environment! The KMR Induction and Mentoring Resource District Team will work with the teacher in coordinating a date and helping implement their session. The sharing could be used as evidence of core professionalism and teacher leadership activities.
