In the summer of 2011, I headed to Space Camp and came home completely jazzed about space and discovery. On the first day of school, I wore my space suit and welcomed my students in as astronauts entering our station. I described our place of discovery as one where they would encounter challenges daily, but where they would also find incredible rewards as they grew and learned with their peers. The children created mission badges and we talked about all the qualities they would need to complete their journey together. It was a pretty amazing year.
I was reminded of this when I recently came across an article titled, "Does Your Classroom Tell A Story?" It was a different twist of this post, but really made me think about being thoughtful about the things we add to our classrooms and the stories that can be told through them.
I'd love to hear about an object or theme in your classroom and the story it tells. Please share in the comments below!
